student committies

The student committees represent your interests at the HCU!

The AStA

The General Student Committee (German abbreviation: AStA) of the HCU is the central executive body of the constituted student body at HafenCity University. The AStA is your point of contact for all issues relating to your studies that are not directly related to your degree programme and represents the interests of students within the university and externally.

our tasks

01

lobbying for your interests

We are in dialogue with the University Executive Board, politicians and other student representatives and represent the interests of HCU students there.

02

events

We organise freshmens week and host events and parties

03

counselling

We are your contacts if you have problems with your studies and also offer counselling and loans for financial emergencies.

04

campus flair

We take care of campus life and are responsible for maintaining the Wohnzimmer (the student lounge on first floor), for example.

The students’ parliament (StuPa) is the highest decision-making part of the student committies at the individual universities in Hamburg. HCU has their own StuPa. Every winter semester, a new StuPa is elected at the same time as the local student councils (FSRe). The legal basis for the work of all student bodies (AStA and FSRe) is the statutes of the student body and other regulations passed by the StuPa. The StuPa also decides, for example, on the amount of the semester fee and what it is spent on (student budget). The StuPa discusses various university policy issues and monitors the finances of the student committies.
